Wow, it's already December 1st! If my Facebook feed is any indication, I'm sure some of you already have your houses decorated and trees up glistening. I wish I could say this is the case in my house, but it's not. With report cards coming up and end of term assignments coming in I have little time to think about the approaching holidays right now. Luckily for my kids I do have the advent calendar up!
The countdown to the holidays is upon us. With that said, however, now more than ever students need to stay focused and get their homework and assignments completed. I will be away for a day this week at an amazing conference in Vancouver, so it it doubly important that students get their work into me by THURSDAY at the latest.
Here are the assignments and activities this week:
ELA 8 - Div 8-01 - workshop with StoryStudio. Students will be writing their own short stories guided by professional writers. Stories to be typed next week. Div 8-02 - we started typing our stories today and they must be in to me by Thursday at the latest. We will start our mythology unit on Wednesday.
Socials 8 - Early Middle Ages important terms due Wednesday (8-02, and overdue for 8-01). Fall of Rome questions due this Friday for 8-02 (8-01 did them last week).
English 9 Pre-AP - final memoirs have been marked and handed back. A couple students STILL have not handed them in - they know who they are! Zines are due on Wednesday and students have three choices: 1) write a six word memoir in the zine; 2) take significant passages/big ideas from their finished memoir to put in the zine; or 3) create a zine of their choice. Bascially a zine is a cheaply made, easily produced mini book. Students could create a Christmas story for their zine - what a great present that would make for someone! Also starting our novel study this week, "Theories of Relativity". Students must do some research on a social topic of their choice (topic choices to be given out on Wednesday) and then share out in a group discussion on Friday.
