Last Wednesday I had the amazing opportunity to take an incredible group of students to Vancouver for the We Day 2014 event. Basically, We Day is put on by Free the Children organisation and it seeks to inspire youth to positively change the world. The Rogers Arena was full of about 20, 000 teenagers - so much energy! Lots of amazing speakers and performers were there: Mackelmore and Ryan Lewis, Selena Gomez, Sean Mendes, Shawn Desmond, Marc and Craig Kielburger, and even the one and only JLo performed! The Spencer kids made us proud and I hope we get this chance again in the future. It was certainly an inspiring day! Here is a selfie of Mr. Carr and I in the arena.
Starting this week, to try and get more people to check out my site I'm going to start hiding secret words or asking a question. If my students come to me the next day with the secret word or answer, I'll give them a lollipop! Today's 'secret' word is Vikings!
Here is what we are doing this week:
Eng 9 PreAP - students must have handed in the Glass Castle graphic organiser and their homework from the weekend (graphic organiser or notes from at least 1 of the 5 memoirs they read). This week we will start our memoir-worthy writing list, continue to read memoirs and we will start drafting memoirs soon.
ELA 8 - drafting of poems. Students should be close to finishing at least one poem (must have several drafts)
SS 8 - Comparative Religions Projects due Wednesday (8-02) and Thursday (8-01). Students can choose to present in class.
Reminders:
- bring in non perishable items for We Scare Hunger campaign
- dance is Thursday evening (need to have forms signed)
- Vikings fieldtrip for Div 8-01 and 8-02 is Tuesday
