Many parents ask me about homework. I usually do not assign homework and if students are using their class time well then they usually get their assignments completed. Our classes are long - 72 minutes to be exact -- so there is usually ample time during class to get work done. Because I do not assign a lot of homework, I also expect my students to hand their assignments in when they are due. Unfortunately, this does not always happen, and this habit can result in poor letter grades or poor work habit marks. If students don't have homework to do, then I suggest they: 1) organize their binder/rewrite their notes; 2) read a book; 3) check out the links I have on my website or play on-line learning games, such as 'Free Rice'; 4) tell you what they learned today at school. There are so many options to choose from! Students, please be aware of due dates and work hard to complete your work on time. This is a life skill which you need to master.
As well, I just want to remind you all that the semester ends soon - Feb 6 - so students should all be working hard to ensure they have their assignments completed for their half year elective courses. Staying on top of assignments and due dates is essential.
Here are the assignments this week:
ELA 8 - Holiday Comic (OVERDUE); continuing Mythology Unit (both classes)
Socials 8 - Daily Life of the Vikings Project must be ready to share out/present to small groups for THURSDAY (8-01) and FRIDAY (8-02)
ENG 9 PRE-AP - 'Theories of Relativity" booklet (responses, character chart, Venn Diagram) is due THIS WEEK. Starting a video/play project and will be given this week and next to complete it in school. Must be ready to present/perform by MONDAY, JAN 26 at the latest.
*word of the week is "homework"
