Mixed Media Self-Portrait

Picture
You will use a variety of media (pastels, paints, pencils, computer, Web 2.0 apps) to create a mixed media self-portrait.  Using images, words and symbolism, this self-portrait should attempt to define who you are as an individual.

Steps:

  1. Create a background using a variety of media – newspaper, coloured papers, pastels, paints, colouring pencils, etc. Use colours, symbols or designs that attempt to illustrate who you are as an individual.

  2. Have your self-portrait taken using the camera or iPad. Edit it using an app or a Web 2.0 image editing software (on my website). Keep it simple and strong. Save your image to Mrs. Nixon’s hand in folder (if using the iPad you will need to email it to yourself first, and then save to the hand in folder).

  3. Write down words and phrases that describe you (I have given you a template to follow).  Strive to write more than just one word responses (this is an English class!) J

  4. Type your words/phrases in MS Word and print.  Make them at least size 14 font.  Use powerful, descriptive words.  Play around with fonts and text size to create impact and illustrate your personality.

  5. Assemble everything together.  Make sure it is of ‘publishable’ quality.
