Who am I?
Name: Mrs. Jennifer Nixon (Email: [email protected]; Twitter: @jentnixon)
School: Spencer Middle School (Advisory/ELA Teacher and Vice Principal)
I have been a teacher since 2005 and have worked in most of the middle schools in the Sooke School District (SD 62). Starting in September 2016 I am now one of the Vice Principals at Spencer Middle School. I love teaching and learning and am a life long learner; in fact, I achieved my Masters in Education with a focus on literacy and criticval thinking. Prior to working as a teacher, I worked on promoting public education and human rights issues internationally, mostly in Indonesia and the South Pacific. I have traveled extensively, and had amazing life experiences: I once could cart a bucket of water on my head (essential for living in a small village in Indonesia!) and have tasted some "interesting" meals in my travels. Besides English, I also speak Indonesian, French and Pig Latin. I live in Central Saanich on the outskirts of Victoria, BC with my husband, Dave, our son, Logan, daughter, Mila, and our new puppy, Otis. When I'm not working or spending time with my family, you can find me hiking, hanging with my kids at the park, playing/coaching soccer or taking photographs.
I am trained in and love working with students in the middle years. I look forward to getting to know the Spencer students and their parents throughout the year.
Please feel free to contact me anytime.
