The flu tends to hit when life is busy. That's certainly true this week, as I'm home finally starting to feel better after my household was hit by the flu bug this weekend. I should be back at the school tomorrow, but it's a reminder to all to try and stay healthy as we enter into cold and flu season. This week, I will be taking 20 students from grades 8-9 over to Vancouver for the day for 'We Day', a huge, inspiring event aimed at kids who want to change the world. I've never been and am very excited to attend. It will be a long, but incredibly rewarding, day. As a result, Ms. Gregory, a local Teacher on Call, will be in for me teaching my classes that day.
Here is what the students are doing this week in class:
English 8 - our free verse poetry unit. Students should be thinking of their "Writing Territories" and starting to draft their first poem.
Socials 8 - Comparative Religions Unit Mini Project. They are given class time to complete this project, which is aimed to get them to think about commonalities and differences of some of the major world religions/beliefs. This project is due next week.
** Fieldtrip forms went home last week so we can visit the Vikings exhibition and Imax at the museum. The cost is $15 and we still require THREE parent chaperones to make this happen.
English 9 Pre-AP - continuing with our memoirs unit. Students are reading several memoirs to get a sense of some memoir traits. Writing and illustrating 'Six-word memoirs' on Wednesday, for inspiration check out the SMITH Six-Word Memoirs site. Next week, they will start drafting their own memoir.
