A door, a market and a hamper drive

What a busy week it is!  I love the door that Morgana A., Emily B., Hannah F., and Mekayla W. in my homeroom created today for the Spencer Christmas door contest.  I personally don’t like the amount of paper that is wasted in creating the holiday doors, so I encourage my students to think outside the box when designing the door.  Well, this group of students had an incredible idea and they created a Christmas tree out of candy canes.  The message on the door is, “Spreading sweetness wherever we go” and our plan is to distribute the candy canes to random students on Friday.  We really thought the Spencer students wouldn’t take the candy canes off the door – unfortunately we were wrong and five went missing today!  Hopefully those responsible realise their mistake and return the candy canes so our gorgeous door stays intact.  I forgot to take a photo today so will take one tomorrow and post it on the blog!

A reminder that the ‘Me to We Club’ is holding its first Winter Wonderland Market this Wednesday and Thursday at lunch in the mall.  Students have been very busy making amazing crafts to see at the market.  All profits will go towards helping to empower people both locally and globally, and we will purchase goats for a family in need in a developing country.  Remember students to bring cash on Wednesday and Thursday to purchase gifts for your friends and family at the market – there will be an incredible diversity of great items to buy, such as photos, greeting cards, slime, stuffies, jewelry, baked goods, mugs, etc.

Also, a reminder Leadership is collecting food for the Goldstream Food Bank.  Many students in my homeroom have brought items to donate; if you haven’t and are able to give something then please do. The more food that is donated, the more families it will feed!

On Friday, my Division (8-02) will be watching a movie ('Home Alone') and having a party.  Students need to bring their own mug and some food to share if possible. No nuts please as we have an allergy in the class!

The secret word this week is “market”.  Come see me for your prize!

Here are the assignments this week:

Div 8-01: Socials Test on Thursday, Review to be given out Tuesday.  English mythology (reading in class)

Div 8-02: Socials test on Wednesday. Review was given out today.  Summary of “Prometheus” myth due Wednesday.

Eng 9 Pre-AP: read at least to Chapter 9, plus at least one reading response for each chapter.  Character chart should be filled in for Dylan, Jenna, Twitch and Amber.  All due Wednesday.  Also, several students have not handed in their ‘Zine” so get this in ASAP.
