Report cards come home this Thursday - they were delayed due to our new system of entering marks, attendance, etc. Hopefully they get printed without a hitch!
In Grade 8 ELA we are starting Literature Circles this week. Students choose a book (out of 8 choices) to read, complete their reading responses and assignments, and come prepared to 'say something' to every meeting. It is very much like a book club. [Word of the week: Reading]. I also supply cookies at our meetings, as food makes a discussion even better! In Socials 8, we are doing a small unit on Europe's Late Middle Ages and we will be focusing on the crusades, the feudal system and the power of the Church.
In Grade 9 ELA Pre-AP, we are starting to look at Shakespeare and the Elizabethan Age. We will read a play together and students will choose between 'Taming of the Shrew' or 'Midsummer Night's Dream'. Before this point, however, students are starting an inquiry unit to look more in depth at the life and times of Shakespeare.
Assignments this week:
Div 8-01: Personal mind map (Thursday); starting Literature Circles and have reading responses done
Div 8-02: Personal mind map (Wednesday); starting Literature Circles and have reading responses done
Eng 9 Pre-AP: Initial brainstorm for the Shakespeare Inquiry Project (1-2 on planning sheet) for WEDNESDAY. Four or five class periods will be given for this project and it will be due after Easter Monday.
