This is the "Nixon's News" Blog....I will try and update it regularly to keep you posted about upcoming tests, due dates for assignments and other info that is going on in class. Please check it regularly to see what we are doing in Division 8-3 and 8-6. I will TRY and update it every Monday evening.
Here are some things to consider as we get back to school:
1. SHOW UP, BE PREPARED - Students need to show up and be prepared for all of my classes. My list of supplies was described on the letter I sent home, so please make sure you have all the supplies by the end of this week. I have purchased many duotangs and notebooks for the interactive notebooks (English and French) and will sell these to students for $0.25 each. Also, for Div. 8-3 students, I recommend that you get a French-English dictionary as this will help you out in French class.
2. LETTER HOME - I sent my students home with a letter with my contact information and other important info. Parents, please make sure you read this letter – as well, if you don’t receive an email from me in the next two weeks then send me an email as it means I don’t have your correct address on file.
3. HOMEWORK - I do not usually assign extra homework, so if students are using their time well in class they should get most of their work done. Each evening, I expect students to read a book for 20 minutes, tell their parents about the day (what did you learn?), and finish the classroom assignments, revise work, and ensure the binder is organised. It is difficult for me to enforce this, so I leave it up to parents and the students to take responsibility to ensure this gets done each evening.
4. "IT TAKES A VILLAGE TO RAISE A CHILD" - It also takes a community to educate a child. To ensure students achieve success in school we ALL (the student, the parents, and the teachers) need to work together to support each other. Ultimately, students are responsible for their own achievement, but parents, teachers and the school community can support the students to do their very best.
That's it for now. I look forward to the year ahead!
